New Country Director for the Zambia Anglican Council Outreach Programme (ZACOP)

Feb 7, 2023

Anglicans in Development welcomes Mrs Ellen Mubanga as the new Country Director of our Zambian partner, ZACOP.

Following the retirement last year of Mrs Felicia Sakala, ZACOP has appointed a new Country Director. Mrs Ellen Mwila C. Mubanga comes to the role from serving on the Zambian National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council where she began as a District Advisor and later became its National Public Private Sector Coordinator.

She has more than 20 years’ experience in public health and development in both public sector and non-government organisations, within Zambia and internationally.

For many years Ellen has been an advocate for initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and well-being of women, girls and children which makes her a perfect fit to lead the Gender Equality Project which is supported by AID.

She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Lusaka, Professional Post-Graduate Certificate in Advanced Health Management from the School of Public Health, Yale University in Partnership with Foundation for Professional Development, and a Bachelor of Science with Education (BSc Ed), from the University of Zambia.

Ellen’s job will be to provide overall leadership to the Gender Project, and to the other programmes implemented by ZACOP. Ellen says she is passionate about good governance, transparency, accountability, integrity, and resilience. She aims to strengthen the resource base of the organisation, and to strengthen and expand its partnerships.

She is a baptised and confirmed Christian in the Anglican Church in Zambia and is a member of the Mothers Union in the Diocese of Lusaka where she holds the position of Vice-President. She also serves at her local parish of St. Mary Magdalene as a Lay Minister/Reader, a role she has had for more than 10 years.

AID joins with ZACOP in welcoming Ellen to this important role, and wishes her well as she leads AID’s partner into the next phase of its work.

We look forward to working with you, Ellen, and with the communities ZACOP serves, for the breaking down of social barriers which inhibit the full flourishing of women and men, and towards the elimination of violence against women and girls in Zambia.
