Stoles create a Communion connection for Australian Ordinands

Feb 12, 2026

ABM was pleased to present many ordinands across Australia with a stole in 2025. Two of these stoles were presented by the Rt Rev Richard Treloar to his two newest Deacons in Gippsland Diocese. The Rev’d Sarah Gover and the Rev’d Josh Hasan have proudly worn their stoles during services in the months since. Sarah is a former staff member of ABM, so it is also a reminder of her former ministry with ABM.

The stoles are made by traditional Igorot weavers from Baguio, in the mountainous region of Luzon, in the Philippines. The Easter Weaving Room is a ministry of the Episcopal Church in the Philippine s (ECP) that preserves the traditional weaving knowledge of the Igorot people, provides employment for men and women in the Baguio region and helps fund ministry initiatives.

In March 2025, two Australian clergy, who had received stoles at their ordinations, visited the Easter Weaving Room and were delighted to see how their stoles had been made. They both commented that when wearing their stoles they were reminded that God’s mission was bigger than just their own parish, diocese or province and that they felt a tangible connection to this wider family of Christ.

By giving these stoles from our brothers and sisters in the ECP to new clergy in Australia, ABM is creating a physical connection across the Anglican Communion.
