Working to Heal a Weary World

Many of us find great joy through our encounters with the natural world. The beauty of Creation reminds us of the beauty of the Creator, and of the great gift we hold in trust.
Each year we celebrate this gift and our responsibility for its care during the Season of Creation.
This year, we see God’s world crying out in pain. Glaciers collapsing. Warming oceans. Species extinction. The call to heed the Fifth Mark of Mission – “Protect, care for and renew life on our planet” – has never sounded louder.
But despite the dire circumstances facing our planet, the work of our Anglican partners around the world offers hope.
From the Solomon Islands to Kenya, from Vanuatu to the Philippines, you support programs that protect God’s creation and equip people to face the climate crisis head on.

In the Solomon Islands, the Anglican Church of Melanesia teaches young people like Constance (above) skills in sustainable farming. It also runs environmental observatories, recording rainfall, temperature and sea level rise – gathering the data needed to understand how the climate is changing.
In Kenya, our partner Anglican Development Services Eastern trains communities in climate-smart agriculture, methods that improve yields and lessen harmful environmental impact.
In Vanuatu, the church is mobilising people to respond in times of natural disaster. Youth volunteers lead training and simulations in Disaster Risk Reduction, and ready emergency supplies, so that people are prepared when an earthquake or cyclone strikes.
Love for all God’s creatures – human, plant and animal – is reflected in the work of our partners.

“A true ecological approach always becomes a social approach: it must integrate questions of justice in debates on the environment, so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor…Everything is connected. Concern for the environment thus needs to be joined to a sincere love for our fellow human beings and an unwavering commitment to resolving the problems of society.”
