Building Bonds of Mutual Friendship and Understanding

Dec 22, 2025

Relationships and partnerships are at the core of God’s mission and ABM’s 175-year history. ABM wants to showcase partnerships that bring the Anglican Communion closer to regular Australian Anglicans.

The following story is a summary of larger articles published in the Diocese of Riverina’s newsletter Four Rivers (click here to read the full articles and see more photos in the October and December 2025 issues).

The Diocese of Riverina is establishing a covenant relationship with the Diocese of Southern Malaita and Sikaiana (DOSMS). The Right Reverend Donald Kirk, Bishop of Riverina, visited DOSMS at its inauguration in November 2024. The Right Reverend Rickson Maomaoru, Bishop of DOSMS, and his wife Deldin, have now spent a period of Sabbatical leave with +Donald, touring 5,147kms around the Diocese of Riverina and visiting many Anglican Church communities.

Bishop Donald says “This new partnership is to enable us to better understand one another as equal partners in the mission of the Gospel” and the two bishops want to “build the bonds of mutual friendship through the establishment of a covenant relationship between the two dioceses”.

This partnership is significant due to the large number of Solomons Islander seasonal workers in the Riverina area, many of whom are now part of their local Anglican parish.

ABM is aware of other Anglican communities that are ministering to seasonal workers from Pacific countries or that have partnerships with other parts of the Anglican Communion. If you have a story to share about partnerships in mission, please contact info@abmission.org.au so that we can encourage one another.
