The Martyrs of New Guinea
ABM archivist, Bronwyn Woods, has uncovered some wonderful treasures relating to our annual commemoration of the deaths during the Japanese invasion of New Guinea of 333 Christian Church workers, including 12 Anglicans. Among the materials are descriptions of talks given by the Rev’d James Benson, who for three years was thought to have been among the Martyrs, but re-appeared at the end of the war. There were also at least five booklets published by ABM about the Martyrs.
