LENT APPEAL 2026
Lent is a time of the desert, of wandering in a spiritual wilderness. It is also a time in which we come to recognize the importance of water and its place as the source and sustainer of life.
Clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene are basic human rights. They should be available to everyone, everywhere – but they aren’t.
This Lent, your generosity can bring the lifegiving gift of clean water to vulnerable people.
Water is life. In Kenya, your generous support enabled our partner, Anglican Development Services Eastern, to work with local people to build a sand dam that provides fresh water close by. © ADSE. Used with permission.

With the support of generous people like you, we work with trusted Anglican partners to bring clean water, safe toilets and essential hygiene facilities to people who need them.
People like Daw Hla, a young mother from Myanmar, whose life you changed for the better.
Daw Hla’s Story – Myanmar

“From now on, we do not need to waste time going to draw water. We can get water any time, …and we no longer get any diseases.” In rural Myanmar, access to clean water has changed mother and farmer Daw Hla’s life for the better © CPM. Used with permission.
Every day, 33-year-old mother Daw Hla* climbed steep hills to reach a distant stream, which would often dry up in summer. In the rainy season, she would slip and injure herself – fetching water could take an hour or more. This exhausting routine stole time from caring for her daughter and her crops, and the constant risk of illness weighed heavily on her.
But then, thanks to you, everything changed.
Our local Anglican partner, the Church in the Province of Myanmar, worked with Daw Hla’s community to bring clean, piped water right to her doorstep.
“When I heard about the water project, I made a promise to do the best I could to help,” she says.
Daw Hla contributed by carrying sand, brick and cement during the process, taking pride in helping from start to finish.
“I am so grateful,” she says, “because now we can get water any time, in a minute, and we don’t have to go up and downhill. Not only that, but we no longer get any diseases.”
Stories like Daw Hla’s are possible because of your compassion.

Around the world, you are changing lives for the better
Over the last 6 years, you have helped to give:
- 56,928 people increased access to safe water and
- 44,039 people increased access to basic sanitation
It’s terrific progress, but there’s more to be done.
Together, we are determined to be a part of the transforming work that God is doing in vulnerable communities around the world. But we can’t do it without you.
With your help, we can reach people who are still living without the essentials they need to life lives of health and dignity:
This Lent, give water – and give life.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus Christ,
you are the Living Water that quenches all thirst.
Hear us as we pray for all those who work with ABM AID
to provide communities in Kenya, Vanuatu, Myanmar
and other places around the world with clean water.
Bless the communities themselves,
that they may benefit from safe water,
and experience the health benefits
of improved sanitation and hygiene facilities.
Send your favour on the staff from our overseas partners
as they oversee the implementation of the work.
Pour out your grace on all those who support such work,
through their interest, their prayers and their gifts.
Accept this work that we do together in your Holy Name.
Amen.
