Celebrating 175 Years of working for God’s love, hope and justice
This service commemorates the 175th anniversary of the Anglican Board of Mission (ABM), a remarkable milestone in the life of our Church. Since its founding in 1850, ABM has faithfully served as the national mission agency of the Anglican Church of Australia, working to share God’s love, hope and justice through word and action, across cultures and countries, transforming lives spiritually, physically and socially.
For 175 years, ABM has partnered with churches and communities both locally and globally, supporting initiatives in ministry, faith formation, education, health, advocacy, and community development. Its work reflects the heart of the Gospel: to see people everywhere experience the wholeness of life God offers in Jesus Christ.
As we honour this legacy today, we give thanks to God for our partner churches and all who have served through ABM, past and present. May we be inspired to continue this work of God’s mission of love, hope and justice in our own lives and communities.
May the Holy Spirit guide us as we celebrate this milestone and recommit ourselves to our shared mission of God centred on our Lord Jesus Christ.
Liturgical Resources
These liturgical resources have been developed for faith communities to use as a guide when preparing a special service for mission. Faith communities are encouraged to remember ABM’s 175th anniversary on Sunday 26 October, either during their regular services or with a special service.

Loving God,
Friend of this ancient and beautiful land;
land we call home, land that calls us home.
Bless the Anglican Board of Mission
as we participate in your healing work.
We honour our history.
We repent of our failings.
We commit to your future.
May we nurture relationships of love.
May we craft stories of hope.
May we contribute to communities of justice.
Grant us the wisdom to hear your voice,
the courage to follow where you lead,
the humility to listen to those we encounter.
May we be blessed by those we Partner with,
and be a blessing to them.
We ask these things in the names of the three that are one.
Creator, Redeemer, Companion.
