TAX APPEAL 2025

Your tax-deductible gift by June 30 can provide pigs, cows, seeds and training for income generation.

In a world of suffering – wars, earthquakes, poverty, floods – it can be easy to despair. But every day, we see how a persistent belief in love, hope and justice transforms lives around the globe.

Our partners share this vision.

Every day they are working hard in some of the world’s poorest countries, giving people the tools they need to lift themselves out of poverty.

But they need your help. Will you support them?

In rural Myanmar, lives like Win’s are being transformed.

Read Win’s Story here.

Win used to worry morning, noon and night.

Ten years ago, the father from rural Myanmar was 31, with a young daughter and a baby son.

Every day, as he worked hard to provide for his family – feeding chickens, collecting firewood, boiling unsafe water – Win worried about his children’s future.

How could he give his son, Maung Cho, and daughter, Ma Aye, a better life than he had?

The village’s water supply was often contaminated. What if his children got sick? There was no money to pay for a doctor, and the clinic was miles away.

How would he send his children to school once they were old enough? When Win looked at his son’s long eyelashes and his daughter’s cheeky smile, he dreamt of a future where they could reach their full potential. Maybe they could be teachers, or doctors, or…

But he and his wife, Naing, were poorly educated themselves. They had always hoped that, somehow, their children might have a chance at an education. But, living on just a few dollars a day, there was no money to pay school fees. Trapped in the cycle of rural poverty, Win knew that his children’s future looked as limited as his own.

But in 2015, thanks to a gift from someone like you, everything changed for Win.

THE MOMENT WHEN EVERYTHING CHANGED FOR WIN

In 2015, ABM AID’s local church partner, CPM, arrived in Win’s community, several hours north of Yangon. In a simple grass-roofed hut, they gathered villagers together to identify challenges and find solutions. Intrigued, Win went along – could this be his chance at something better?

Guided by experienced staff, Win and his neighbours mapped out what could be done to improve their lives.

Two priorities emerged:

  1. The village needed a safe, secure supply of drinking water
  1. Villagers needed to learn how to raise healthier, more productive animals

That’s when Win received two pigs, funded by a $60 gift from a donor like you.

He also joined a training program to learn animal husbandry – skills that would change everything.

FROM TWO PIGS TO A THRIVING LIVELIHOOD

Win diligently cared for his pigs. Soon, he had a litter of piglets. He passed some on to other families and began building a sustainable pig business.

ABM AID also funded a tube well in the village – clean water was finally within reach all year round.

Win’s fortunes began to change.

His pigs began to multiply. Win kept the animals he needed for breeding and sold the extras, producing an income. Some of the income went on daily essentials – food, clothes – but Win set a little aside for Maung Cho and Ma Aye’s schooling. He allowed himself to hope that their future might be better.

Win’s skills and confidence grew with his income. He learned how to vaccinate animals, help with births, and soon became a go-to expert for his neighbours. This is the transformation your gift makes possible.

Just last month, ten years since Win was given two pigs by a generous donor like you, a church staff member visited him at home and found out that…

THE MONEY EARNED FROM WIN’S PIG BUSINESS HAS ENABLED HIM TO SEND BOTH HIS SON AND HIS DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL.

Because a generous donor like you donated $60 for two pigs, Win’s life has transformed.

 Win, now 41, says:

Thanks to the training we received through the project, a door was opened to a new source of income.

With this blessing, we have been able to support our children’s education and provide for all our family’s needs.

Our daughter is now at boarding school, and our son is in Grade 3. Life has improved so much compared to the past.”

Win and Naing no longer live in fear of the future – they live in hope.

Now, whatever the need – school fees, books or a visit to the doctor – Win has it covered.

Win and Naing watch their children thrive at school and are deeply thankful for the opportunities they can now give them.

A HAND UP, NOT A HANDOUT

That $60 gift didn’t just buy pigs. It helped create a self-sustaining livelihood. And now, Win and Naing are giving back, helping their neighbours with their animals, and recently contributing to the building of a new church in their village.

Win’s life has flourished thanks to a generous donor like you. This success was made possible because, ten years ago, someone like you gave to the work of ABM AID.

But there are still thousands of families like Win’s – in Myanmar and around the world – who are trapped in the cycle of poverty.

And as we approach June 30, your tax-deductible gift to ABM AID’s Sustainable Communities program could do the same for them.

You have the ability to free people from the cycle of rural poverty.

PRAYER

Grant your blessing, Lord,
on the world’s poor and needy –
those who have determination and drive,
but who need a hand up to have a secure life.

By your grace,
bless all those who worry for their children,
and for their children’s futures,
because of their current circumstances.

May they also be blessed
whose hearts are filled with love,
whose minds are set upon justice,
and whose hands are filled with hope,
ready to pass it on
to give that hand up,
to alleviate that gnawing anxiety,
and to offer the gift of a better, more prosperous future.

Hear our prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
