Daily Prayer - Day 5 (from 'Partners in Prayer')

Anglican Church of PNG (ACPNG)

Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the Lord has comforted his people, and will have compassion on his suffering ones.
– Isaiah 49.13 (NRSV)

In some provinces of Papua New Guinea, up to 60% of people identify with the Anglican faith. ABM has been working with the Anglican Church of PNG for over 120 years. Projects include working with women, children and youth; as well as water, health and education programs. Work focused on evangelism and training clergy in PNG has prepared many locals for a life of service to their communities as leaders of the Church.

Loving Father, we give you thanks for the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea, and we pray for:

  • the Most Rev Joe Kopapa, Archbishop of Papua New Guinea
  • the bishops of ACPNG – the Rt Rev Alan Migi, the Rt Rev Clyde Igara, the Rt Rev Nathan Ingen, the Rt Rev Denys Ririka, the Rt Rev Lindsley Ihove and the Rt Rev Peter Ramsden, and for their clergy and people
  • the General Secretary, Richard Rabiafi; staff of the church; workers in the Anglican Health Service and the Anglican Education Division
  • Church Partnership Coordinator, Betty Gali and all the CPP staff
  • The sexual health improvement program and all those working to improve awareness and treatment of related illnesses
  • Russell Thompson, coordinating ABM’s work at St Margaret’s Hospital in Popondota Diocese; Ulch Tapia, National Health Secretary; and Sr Mildred Laksen, Manager of St Margaret’s
  • Communities served by the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea

…the one Church in Christ to which we all belong

Gracious God, you ask us to put all our hopes in you and to trust in your grace. Bless the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea as it works to provide for the spiritual growth of its people, to reach out to serve the health, education and development needs of ordinary Papua New Guineans.
Give them renewed hope, faith and joy in the knowledge that in serving others they are also serving you.
This we ask in the name of your most blessed son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

A PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE OF NORTH KOREA AS THEY FACE FAMINE

Give us this day our daily bread.
– Matthew 6:11

We thank you, God who saves,
for the efforts of the National Council of Churches of Korea and its partners
as they seek to respond to the great need of the people in the North
who have endured chronic food shortages and malnutrition for the past fifteen years
and who now face a very poor vegetable crop
due to the heavy rains, floods and severe cold of the past winter season.

Save the people in the North in their time of dearth.

Help the Churches in the South to continue to share their food across the border
with the people of the North,
and let that be an encouragement which impels others to do the same.

May the Churches’ commitment be seen as a demonstration of your love for the world,
a love which crosses every border.

Amen

PRAY FOR SUDAN

South Sudan became the world's newest nation on 9 July 2011, the final step in the six-year Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), a deal that ended the 1983-2005 North-South war. (IRIN News)

It is one of the world’s poorest areas with a mainly Christian population whereas the north is mainly Muslim.

There are an estimated 800,000 to one million South Sudanese in Sudan. Since last autumn a further 300,000 have already made their way to South Sudan. Many more are likely to follow. (BBC News)

Australian Anglicans are asked to join with Christians around the world to pray for this new nation, and for an end to the violence and conflict in Sudan.

Download a PDF document with some suggested prayers and information on Sudan.

Pray also for our fellow Anglicans in the country – members of the Episcopal Church in Sudan, remembering especially the Primate, Archbishop Daniel Deng and his clergy and people at this difficult time.

Information on the Episcopal Church in Sudan can be found at http://sudan.anglican.org.

PRAYERS FOR RECONCILIATION:

We offer to the church these prayers - they may be used during the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation, NAIDOC week or indeed at anytime.

Reconciliation Prayer

Lord God, bring us together as one,
reconciled with you and reconciled with each other.
You made us in your likeness,
you gave us your Son Jesus Christ.
He has given us forgiveness from sin.
Lord God, bring us together as one,
different in culture,
but given new life in Jesus Christ,
together as your body, your Church, your people.
Lord God, bring us together as one,
reconciled, healed, forgiven,
sharing you with others as you have called us to do.
In Jesus Christ, let us be together as one.
Amen

The Rainbow Prayer

Dear Loving Lord, Creator of all,
you created us all in your own image,
one image - many colours,
one image - many cultures.
You made us come togeter like a rainbow,
separate parts but coming together in one creation.
Help us to see the beauty you have created in each and every one of us.

Dear Loving Lord, we are your creation,
hear the cries of your people.
You gave us ears to hear and eyes to see,
open our eyes to what you want us to see,
help us always to look to you to see the wisdom of your ways.

Dear Loving Lord, Creator of all,
you gave us hearts to love and minds to reason.
Help us to understand our differences and grow in love for each other.
Help us to come together as the rainbow comes together, many colours, shining as one creation over all the earth
as you intended us to be.
In the name of your dear Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
