Fri 09 Aug 2019 - Tue 13, Aug 2019
ABM Partnerships Coordinator Robert McLean will be visiting Tasmania from 9 - 13 August to talk about Newton Theological College in Papua New Guinea, and to share some stories of life there for the students and their families.
About Robert McLean
Robert McLean (pictured above with student Leki Kambari) was born in New Zealand and grew up being a choirboy at Christchurch Cathedral. He studied history and theology at university and then moved to Australia some twenty years ago. He has been on the staff of the Anglican Board of Mission (ABM) for the past decade and works as Partnerships Coordinator. Through the Partnerships Unit’s Church to Church Program, ABM supports overseas partners to strengthen themselves, mainly through theological education and formation for clergy, ordination candidates and lay people. The Partnerships Unit’s main focus at present is Newton Theological College in Popondetta, Papua New Guinea. The college trains future leaders for the Church in that country.
Newton Theological College in Papua New Guinea
The Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea has appointed Bishop Jeffrey Driver as Acting Principal and his deputy is Fr Giles Motisi. The college is in a period of fairly rapid transition as the curriculum is revised, the library is updated, college buildings are repaired, and water and generator systems are renewed. Bishop Jeff has a wide range of skills and has been working hard, along with the staff and students, to improve the college.
The ABM Tasmania Committee looks forward to you joining us at the following gatherings where Robert will speak about his work with ABM as Partnerships Coordinator. His visit is a wonderful opportunity to encourage us in supporting the work of ABM.
