Disaster Risk Management Program
The part of Kenya and the Philippines where ABM’s partner churches work are often severely affected by natural disasters. Floods, typhoons and tsunamis frequently plague the Philippines and often strike vulnerable communities.
In Kenya, disasters come in the form of protracted droughts which seriously affect food production. Disaster Risk Management programs have been set up by ABM’s partners to empower communities. Depending on the need, training includes; emergency evacuation planning; caring for the elderly during a crisis; extensive tree planting; and use of drought-resistant crops.
Please support this appeal so ABM’s partners can equip communities to respond effectively to disasters (tax-deductible).
Youth Engagement Program
Throughout Australia, ABM provides grants to help the Church with initiatives which engage young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
In the Northern Territory, funds help small teams of trainers to reach remote communities in Arnhem Land and islands in the Gulf of Carpentaria. There they provide friendship, pastoral support and training for leaders to equip churches in responding to the substantial challenges confronting Aboriginal young people in remote communities.
Please give to this project to support the Church in loving, listening to and working together with young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (non tax-deductible).
Youth and Sunday School Empowerment Program
In Kenya, the newly introduced Youth & Sunday School Program encourages young people to partake in leadership training and embrace the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Youth conferences will be organised on an annual basis where speakers will be invited to speak on particular themes of relevance. Sunday school teachers and youth leaders will take part in training and develop materials that respond to contemporary issues.
Youth and Sunday school children will also be encouraged to participate in environmental conservation issues as well as tree planting and clean up days.
Your support will offer leadership training to youth leaders and Sunday school teachers in Kenya (non tax-deductible).
