Vanuatu has a population of just over 200,000 with over 100 languages spoken. The ni-Vanuatu people, a Melanesia race, dominate this South Pacific island’s population. The economy is based primarily on small-scale agriculture, which provides a living for 65% of the population. Most people live in rural areas, where they have few health, education and employment opportunities and women and children must walk miles to collect water.
In Vanuatu, ABM works through the Church of Melanesia (COM) which is the local expression of the Anglican Church and extends through the Solomon Islands into Vanuatu. Around 13% of the population identifies with this church. In Vanuatu there are two diocese – Banks and Torres and diocese of Vanuatu. ABM is working towards supporting the church to carry out the mission and respond to the many pressing social needs in Vanuatu.
ABM’s projects in Vanuatu are:
Literacy Program in Vanuatu
