Proclaiming the Gospel in PNG
Bishop of Dogura
Bishop Clyde Igara of the Diocese of Dogura is on a mission to help the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea (ACPNG) to grow and strengthen in faith. He believes that by providing training for all lay evangelists, both men and women, they will be better equipped to spread the Good News within their local parishes.
In the Diocese there are more than 30,000 Anglicans. Over the last few years, the Church has been focused on expanding the number of parishes. At present, there are 25 parishes and 180 churches within Dogura Diocese.
It is important to the Church that lay ministers are able to support ordained clergy, equipped with some knowledge of the Bible and sacraments to help the congregation in their spiritual journey. They are taught to communicate and evangelise more effectively, so that the gospel can be shared with others, some of whom are hearing about Jesus for the first time.
Over the next ten years Bishop Clyde wants to concentrate on the evangelism programs so that people will become more responsible for their local churches and parishes.
ABM hopes that the ACPNG will be able to reach out to more people and help them experience life through Christ with funding from this project.
This project needs $8,000 in 2010.
