Children's Ministry in the Philippines

Children in the Philippines © Bev Hewlett/ABM 2008

This project is aimed at enhancing the children’s Christian education in the Episcopal Church in the Philippines (ECP). Funding will assist in providing materials and an education curriculum for the Program. The courses will be open not only to Anglicans, but also to others from non-Anglican backgrounds so that the Church can reach out to many more people.

The ECP hopes to give children a solid foundation for understanding the Christian faith. All children who are to be confirmed will be required to complete a basic Catechism course. This two day course will be done just prior to confirmation.

Once children have completed the basic Catechism course, they will be then go on to Vacation Church School (VCS). The VCS course applies to all local congregations which have completed the Catechism course for children. There will be at least one training session per year of VCS voluntary teachers in each diocese.

The Sunday School Program will be regulated and centered on the strengthening of Christian values. Children will be taught to understand and appreciate basic Christian values. It is hoped that the outcome of this program will lead to a reduction in anti-social activities in communities within a three year period. Volunteers will also be recruited to teach in this area.

The ECP has a vision of becoming a “dynamic and vibrant church of caring, witnessing and mission-oriented parishes by 2018.” By helping children to know Christ and to live by his teachings, ABM is supporting our Church Partner in the Philippines to realize this vision.

This project needs $26,800 in 2010.
