Simple Irrigation Facilities
This is Project 31 in the 2007 project book
The Philippines is a tropical country with two distinct seasons, wet and dry. The cropping season revolves around the wet months when rain water is available from May until November. Without access to irrigation, upland farming is non-existent after November and farmers’ incomes drop to zero during the months of December to April. With this project, ABM aims to provide irrigation water so that another crop can be planted during the dry months. This will help improve the plight of poor farmers so that they are able to increase their income to cover not only food but other necessities such as health and education needs of the family as well.
Here are some of the ways your gift will be used:
- $21 purchases one 1” diameter brass check valve
- $83 is the cost of one roll of 1” polyethylene pipes; one system uses more than 50 rolls
- $430 pays for 100 pieces of wood (2”x2”x12’) that will support irrigation canals
- $1,150 is the cost of technical support that will be provided by an electrician during project implementation
- $3,430 buys a 20HP diesel engine irrigation pump needed to run the system
We need to raise $30,000 in 2007 (donations are tax deductible)
We have collected 11% of this target to date
