Our Projects in Korea
| The Diocese of Busan celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of relations with the Anglican Board of Mission |
Korea has a population of 49 million of which 70% now live in urban areas. When the Japanese occupation ended in 1945, the South Korean economy was impoverished and rurally-based then much of its infrastructure was destroyed during the Korean War. Since then, sustained high economic growth has led to South Korea's transformation into a highly industrialised economy. The main religions in Korea are Buddhism and Christianity; other traditional faiths include Confucianism & Animism.
In Korea, ABM works with the Anglican Church of Korea. The first contact between Australia and Korea took place in 1884, when Australian missionaries landed at Busan. The church has been a crucial pioneer in the provision of social services to those in need and is seeking ways to develop new and creative expressions of mission and ministry.
ABM’s projects in Korea are:
Children and Youth in Korea
