Wontulp-Bi-Buya College, Cairns

Diocese of North Queensland

Revd Victor Joseph, Principal of Wontulp-Bi-Buya College
Revd Victor Joseph, Principal of Wontulp-Bi-Buya College

This project needs $36,000 in 2012.

Wontulp-Bi-Buya College was first established in 1983 as the Queensland branch of Nungalinya College in Darwin. It became incorporated in 1999 with four membership groups - Anglican, Catholic, Lutheran and Uniting Churches.

The College develops Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander church and community leaders. It offers programs in theology & community development, including Theology Studies (Certificate III or Diploma), Certificate III in Community Organising and Development, and Alcohol and Other Addictions Counselling Course (Certificate III and IV).

The office is located in Cairns and nearby Tropicana Lodge is a base for residential studies which are usually in 4 two week blocks. Workshops, conferences and community-based studies are organised from time to time, and tutors support studies and activities in other parts of Queensland.

Wontulp-Bi-Buya strives to educate Australian church members in the knowledge and understanding of the gospel through their cultures, and to develop leaders within the church. Students are trained in aspects of community work, youth work, family health, home management and other areas of community life. The main goal is to equip them to be effective in their ministry to their people, their church and their community.

ABM supports the College and its vision, staff, administration, resources and workshops for the education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Funding for this project will go towards Principal Victor Joseph’s annual salary. Fr Victor says, “On behalf of Wontulp-Bi-Buya College we are grateful for the fundraising from ABM for our staff program and appreciate their ongoing support.”

Support this project in 2012 and assist the principal, the Revd Victor Joseph in his ministry to Indigenous Australians.

Donations to this program are tax deductible.
