MISSION:GOD’S AGENDA OR OURS?
12/7/2010
Sunday 8 August 2010 from 2.00pm till 4.30pm
Guest Speaker: The Rev'd John Deane, Executive Director of ABM.
As Christians, as Anglicans, as members of a parish, do we actually think of ourselves as "on a mission"? And yet quite clearly, as those who have "turned to Christ" we are given a mission, individually and as a church. We need a contemporary understanding of the Church's mission so that it can be our mission also. This seminar will look at contemporary trends in missiology with particular reference to the Five Marks of Mission, which have been adopted by the Anglican Consultative Council –
• To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
• To teach, baptise and nurture new believers
• To respond to human need by loving service
• To seek to transform unjust structures of society
• To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and
sustain and renew the life of the earth.
Led by Rev’d John Deane, the seminar will consider how these Marks of Mission are based on the recognition of mission as being God’s and not ours, individually or as a church. It will also look at how this changed perspective has contributed to a more holistic understanding of mission and a more dynamic understanding of church.
